Military Appreciation BBQ Serves Over 1000

The Military Affairs Committee of the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce recently sponsored their annual military appreciation BBQ on Vandenberg Air Force Base on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. Through the generous donations of major sponsor Explore Lompoc and other local businesses, free lunch was served to over 1000 military personnel and families of deployed members.

Members of the Explore Lompoc Board of Directors handed out 100 gift certificates to Airmen at the BBQ to Lompoc businesses. Culligan Water of Lompoc provided bottled water for the event. The lunch consisted of grilled chicken and tri-tip, beans, bread and salad prepared by the Noncommissioned Officers Association. A great deal of support for the days event was provided VAFB First Sergeants Council and the base Public Affairs Office.

“It’s a recognition barbeque for Vandenberg Air Force Base active duty military and families of deployed members – to thank them for the sacrifices they make for our country,” said Ken Ostini, Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau President and CEO.

“Our Military Affairs Committee, led by Sylvia King, does a fantastic job of planning, organizing and fundraising all year-round, not only for this barbeque, but also to support other Vandenberg events that we help co-sponsor with other local Chambers of Commerce,” said Ostini. “It is truly an honor for us to be able to show a small bit of appreciation to our military members who sacrifice so much to preserve our freedom. With the financial backing of Explore Lompoc we are able to do more to support our Airmen. Thanks Team Vandenberg.”
